St Etienne - Strasbourg Prediction, Picks and Taips

In recent history, matches between AS Saint-Étienne and RC Strasbourg often guarantee the necessary number of goals. Can we also expect a spectacle on Saturday evening?

After a not very good preparation, AS Saint-Étienne managed to win the new season in Ligue 1 two weeks ago. At home, two goals from Romain Hamouma, both times on instructions from Arnaud Nordin, beat PhD student Lorient 2-0. Because of the victory over Lorient, the team of Claude Puel, together with Olympique Lyonnais, Olympique Marseille and Olympique Nice, belongs to the four teams that have not yet failed this season, but the question is how long this series can be continued by the team that won two league games in a row only once last season. The absence of most of the supporters in football stadiums could do les Verts good. Last season, Puel's team was one of the three teams that collected the least number of points in home games on average. For example, fourteen home games won only four times, but this season les Verts can approach half that number after just two games. However, that will have to happen without creatives Wahi Khazri and Ryan Boudebouz, because both trendsetters are injured, just like goalkeeper Stéphane Ruffier and striker Loïc Diony.

RC Strasbourg was able to achieve excellent results in preparation for the current season, but currently Thierry Laurey's team is unable to impress. Three weeks ago, a visit to PhD student Lorient was lost 3-1 and two weeks ago a 2-0 defeat was suffered at home against Olympique Nice. In addition, the exhibition match against VFB Stuttgart was also lost 4-2 last weekend, so the form is currently not too good at le Racing. So far, five goals have been conceded in two league games, which makes the defense seem like the weak point of Laurey's team again this season. Last season, le Racing was one of the eight teams with the fewest goals against, but for the time being only Stade Brestois is doing worse with seven goals in two games. The fact that first goalkeeper Matz Sels, who defended RC Strasbourg's goal for 64 of the 65 league games in the last two seasons, suffered an Achilles tendon injury in July and is not available in the coming period.
