Southampton - Chelsea Prediction, Picks and Tips

A number of interesting games will be played in the Premier League this weekend. Southampton and Chelsea are the first two clubs to take action on Saturday. The home team lost the last six league matches it played, while Chelsea has started the way up in recent weeks.

Southampton has been making a free fall in the rankings in recent weeks. Southampton has even dropped to thirteenth place in the Premier League. More than three months ago Southampton was at the top of the Premier League for the first time in club history. It does indicate that Southampton is currently in the corner where the blows fall. On the other hand, Ralph Hasenhüttl's team is now in a position where it belongs. After all, Southampton is not such a special team. After a 9-0 defeat at Manchester United and a 3-2 loss at Newcastle United, Southampton went home against Wolverhampton Wanderers last Sunday. At its own St. Mary's Stadium, it initially took the lead by a goal from Danny Ings. After the break, however, goalkeeper Alex McCarthy was passed two more times, leaving The Saints empty-handed again. Earlier this season, Southampton played a 3-3 draw at Chelsea, but given the current form of The Saints, a defeat on Saturday afternoon seems more obvious.

The change of coach at Chelsea is not so bad for the time being. Thomas Tuchel took over from Frank Lampard a few weeks ago and Chelsea has started to perform better under the German. Tuchel did not lose with the West Londoners yet and only lost points in his first game (0-0 against Wolverhampton). In the games that followed, Chelsea recorded victories over Burnley (2-0), Tottenham Hotspur (0-1), Sheffield United (1-2) and Newcastle United (2-0). The victory over Newcastle United on Monday evening was achieved by hits from Oliver Giroud and Timo Werner. Chelsea have won the last five away games it played at Southampton. The Blues will be confident that they will also be able to achieve a good result at St. Mary's Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Especially given the current form of Tuchel and his men. An advantage that Chelsea currently has over a number of competitors is that it no longer has any European obligations. As a result, they have been able to prepare for the game with Southampton at Chelsea all week. Tammy Abraham has to miss the game in the English port city after he was slightly injured against Newcastle United.
