Serbia - Ukraine Prediction, Picks and Tips

The first groups of the qualifiers for the finals next year will be closed on Sunday. Meanwhile, several tickets are already fixed, but a few open questions still provide tension. In Group B there will be a long-distance duel between the reigning European champions Portugal and Serbia on Sunday starting at 14 pm. CR7 & Co have the best chances and would fix the ticket with a victory in Luxembourg. With a surprising loss of points Serbia could be the beneficiary. Assumed here, however, would be a victory of the Serbs against the Ukraine! Serbia have collected 13 points in their previous seven games, one point behind Portugal. Since the direct comparison was lost, a victory against the group winner Ukraine has to come in any case. Andrei Shevchenko's team has an outstanding qualification and 19 out of 21 points on the credit side. The first defeat on Sunday in Belgrade would not be a big surprise, after all, it is for Ukraine only a friendly under competitive conditions.

Realistically, the chances for the team of head coach Ljubisa Tumbakovic on the European Championship ticket in qualifying are no longer great. A point loss for the Portuguese in Luxembourg would be a big sensation. Accordingly, the hope will probably be in vain - mourning mood must not prevail in Serbia but therefore. In the autumn of 2018, Serbia performed convincingly in the newly created UEFA Nations League and in the third-rate league C won the group ahead of Romania, Montenegro and Lithuania. In any case, in March 2020, the Tumbakovic team will have another chance to win one of their last four European Championship tickets. In the current qualification, the Serbian national football team stood for absolute spectacle. In the seven previous games a total of not less than 30 goals (goal difference 15:15) were achieved. On average, this means more than four hits per game. With the exception of the 1-1 draw on Matchday 1, all matches ended with at least three goals. On Thursday evening, Serbia was in Belgrade in use and celebrated thereby the obligatory victory against Underdog Luxembourg. However, the final phase was not relaxed, because Luxembourg did well and could shake Serbia. In the end, however, there was a deserved 3-2 win, with once more top goalscorer Aleksandar Mitrovic making the difference with a brace. Looking at the existing squad, the question arises why Serbia could only be found in League C in the Nations League. The Serbs have a number of top players who have prevailed in well-known teams in Europe. With this player material the first European Championship participation (represented so far only twice at a World Cup) is a realistic goal.

On October 14, there was great rejoicing at the European Championship host of 2012 (then together with Ukraine). Now over seven years ago, Ukraine made its debut at a European football championship, but had to say goodbye after the preliminary round. Four years later, Ukraine suffered the same fate at the European Championship 2016 in France. In the coming year, for the first time the preliminary round will be overcome. As a total of five team (after Belgium, Italy, Poland and Russia) fixed the Shevchenko-Elf the EM ticket. Ukraine started their goalless draw in Portugal to start the qualification. This should actually be the only point loss, because the ensuing six games, the team has all decided for themselves. The Ukraine acted convincingly and had to concede just two goals. The masterpiece - which fixed the qualification - was the 2-1 victory in October against European champions Portugal. Thus, Ukraine not only has the ticket fixed, but also the group victory in the season B. Ukraine has been able to bring about a change in recent years and has pushed the average age in the national team far below. This development is far from over, as there are great talents in the offspring of Ukraine. Best proof was the expired U20 World Championship in Poland this summer. Ukraine took the title and raised hopes for a glorious and prosperous future in Eastern Europe. In the current squad of Andrij Shevchenko only Vitalii Mykolenko (left-back) and Andrii Lunin (goalkeeper) can be found only two world champions. However, only four "Ü-30s" can still be found. Two of them are the goalkeepers Andrii Piatov and Yurii Pankiv, the other two veterans are ex-Germany legionaries Andrii Yarmolenko and Yevhen Konoplyanka. On Thursday night, Ukraine played a friendly against Estonia and won 1-0 thanks to a last-minute goal by Joker Roman Besus (90 + 2). Shevchenko used the game to do some experiments. Also on Sunday this is to be expected in Belgrade and accordingly we take distance between Serbia and Ukraine from the lucrative quotas on the guests.
