Nimes - Brest Prediction, Picks and Taips

Nîmes Olympique and Stade Brestois finished in eighteenth and fourteenth place respectively last season. Do the low flyers this season manage to surpass their performances of last season?

Last season it was regularly doom and gloom at Nîmes Olympique and it is therefore surprising that Bernard Blaquart and the club split up prematurely. His successor, Jérôme Arpinon, has not yet gotten things going at les Crocodiles, as evidenced by the poor results in the preparation. Competitors Olympique Marseille and RC Strasbourg lost 1-0 and against second division teams Rodez and Grenoble, they drew 1-1 and lost 2-0 respectively. Given that Nîmes Olympique was involved in a continuous relegation battle last season, it is not illogical that the team has been able to strengthen itself in several positions this summer. The end of Paul Bernardoni's rental period made it necessary to attract a new goalkeeper in the form of Baptiste Reynet, but Arpinon's team has also been able to strengthen itself in the other lines. For example, almost three million euros was paid for midfielder Andrés Cubas and left back Birger Meling was taken over from the Norwegian Rosenborg for one million euros.

The preparation for the new season went a lot better for Stade Brestois than for Nîmes Olympique. There was a 2-1 defeat against Stade Rennais at the beginning of this month, but in the last week and a half there were victories against Lille, the number three of the previous season and second division team En Avant Guingamp. With the form, it therefore seems to be in the right place for Olivier Dall'Oglio's team just before the start of the new season. Stade Brestois also had a turbulent transfer summer. For example, attacking mercenaries Samuel Grandsir and Alexandre Mendy returned to AS Monaco and Girondins de Bordeaux respectively and defenders Gaëtan Belaud and Jean-Charles Castlletto walked out for free. In contrast, the arrival of attackers Franck Honorat and Heriberto Tavares from AS Saint-Étienne and Benfica respectively. The team also managed to strengthen itself defensively by hiring right back Ronaël Pierre-Gabriel from FSV Mainz on a rental basis and depositing no less than four million euros for central defender Christophe Hérelle of Olympique Nice.
