Marseille - St Etienne Prediction, Picks and Taips

Olympique Marseille and AS Saint-Étienne are the only two teams in Ligue 1 without losing points this season. Which of the two teams will be the first to lose points on Thursday?

Last Sunday, Olympique Marseille was the lesser team in le Classique against Paris Saint-Germain, but André Villas-Boas's team still managed to win in the French capital. Because goalkeeper Steve Mandanda managed to keep the zero through several excellent saves, a hit by star player Florian Thauvin after half an hour of play was enough for the victory. It was the first time since 2011 that L'OM managed to win against the Parisians, but Villas-Boas will hope that is the only resemblance to the 2011/2012 season, as Olympique Marseille finally finished only tenth. For the time being, Thauvin is the star player with the Marseilles residents and that seems to be at the expense of striker Dario Benedetto. The Argentine striker, who scored eleven hits in 26 games last season, was unable to score this season and also misses Thursday's game against AS Saint-Étienne. Benedetto, who came on as a substitute in le Classique, took a red card in the heated final phase on Sunday, just like his teammate Jordan Amavi and so he will remain on zero goals for the time being.

Before the international break, AS Saint-Étienne already won 2-0 against PhD candidate Lorient and the team of Claude Puel did the same last weekend against RC Strasbourg. In an equal match, Mahdi Camara and Denis Bouanga made the difference in the second half, making Puel's team the only team in Ligue 1 without losing points and goals against. However, Les Verts have not yet met any heavy opposition, so much value cannot be attached to these results. Looking at the statistics, it appears that les Verts have not been able to create too much danger this season. The statistically expected number of goals for Puel's team is 3.15, while the statistically expected number of collected goals is 1.51. So the goal difference of +4 (4-0) paints a rosier picture than the statistics, but in the end it's all about what happens on the field.
