Lyon - Marseille Prediction, Picks and Tips

Olympique Lyonnais and Olympique Marseille both have to do without two of their star attackers on Wednesday evening. Can we nevertheless expect an attractive competition?

Olympique Lyonnais simply started the new month badly. At the beginning of February, Olympique Nice lost 2-1 and last Wednesday, Rudi Garcia's team did not advance any further than a 0-0 draw against low-flyer Amiens. Last weekend, Les Gones also did not leave a strong impression: on a visit to leader Paris Saint-Germain, Garcia's team was 3-0 behind in fifty minutes and despite an attempt to make a comeback, Les Gones lost 4-2. The team of Garcia is now only on goal difference in the left row and seems to have to get a European ticket through the Coupe de France. The 16-year-old talent Mathis Ryan Cherki got his first basic place in the Ligue 1 against PSG and immediately paid off the confidence of his trainer. Shortly after the break the French talent was responsible for an assist on Martin Terrier, after which he was replaced by Karl-Toko Ekambi, who then also provided an assist. Due to the injuries of Memphis Depay and Jeff Reine-Adélaïde, Cherki's development seems to have gained momentum and with two hits and three assists in his last five games, Cherki proves Garcia's confidence so far.

In contrast to Olympique Lyonnais, Olympique Marseille seems to be winning a European ticket this season through the final ranking in the Ligue 1. The Marseilles won last week 2-0 from AS Saint-Étienne and last weekend won 1-0 in their own home against Toulouse, who saw the lead in third place grow to eight points. The leading position is of course far out of reach for the team of Villas-Boas, but in the Coupe de France the Marziers still have a chance for silverware. The good performances of the people of Marseilles in recent months are not so much due to the vanguard, but rather to the defense. In the last seven games, the Villas-Boas team collected only one goal. The last three games were always the zero and only a total of nine shots were fired at the target of Steve Mandanda. Villas-Boas currently seems to have reserved its four rear seats for Jordan Amavi, Duje Caleta-Car, Álvaro González and Bouna Sarr. Right back Hiroki Saki also regularly makes playing minutes, but the Japanese his basic place seems to depend on the move from Sarr to midfield if necessary.
