Lorient opens the new season with a home game against RC Strasbourg. Can the number one in the Ligue 2 last season also impress at the highest level?
 




 
 


Many players from Lorient, last season's number one Ligue 2, will have been relieved for several months when the French football competitions ended. With no less than four losses and only one win in the last five league games last season, Lorient was on track to lose first place and, in the worst case, have to play at least one more season in Ligue 2. However, it did not come that far and that is why Christophe Pélissier's team has the chance to prove itself at the highest level this season.



Promotion is always accompanied by a turbulent transfer summer and that certainly applies to Lorient. Pélissier has managed to keep the core of his selection together so far and Lorient also succeeded in strengthening the team in all lines with a mix of older and younger players. Unlike Lorient, not everyone at RC Strasbourg was happy with the premature end of the season. The team of Thierry Laurey played one game less than the direct competitors last season and was still in the race for a European ticket. However, it should not be the case for le Racing, which means that the focus this season can be on the Ligue 1. With 38 points from 27 games, the results of RC Strasbourg were certainly not without merit last season, but there was also plenty of room for improvement.



So far, Laurey has managed to keep his key players, but on the other hand, no major acquisitions have been attracted yet. So far, two million euros have been paid for Majeed Waris, who has been rented from FC Porto since the winter break.
