Lens - St Etienne Prediction, Picks and Taips

The last time RC Lens and AS Saint-Étienne met in competition was more than five years ago when the mutual match ended in 3-3. Can we also expect a spectacle on Saturday? RC Lens managed to win all of the first three league games of September and seemed on course not to lose any points in September, but at the last minute it went to visit Nîmes Olympique last weekend. In a tie match, it was again Ignatius Ganago who put his team ahead, but in the final phase goalkeeper Jean-Louis Leca, who kept an excellent game, conceded a goal, which ended the game in a 1-1 draw.

Together with Montpellier and Stade Rennais, the number one and shared number three in the rankings, RC Lens is the only one without losing points in its own stadium. RC Lens was also very strong in-house last season with no less than thirty points from fourteen games, so it is not entirely surprising that Franck Haise's team performs strongly in their own stadium. The provisional shared third place after five rounds of play, on the other hand, is surprising for the team that played in Ligue 2 last season.

With three victories in the first three games of the season, AS Saint-Étienne started the new season very strongly, but now the team of Claude Puel seems to have ended up in a free fall. Two weeks ago, a 2-0 lead was already given away on a visit to Nantes and last weekend a large 3-0 defeat against Stade de Rennais was suffered in-house. Especially in the first half les Verts played quite invisible, but also in the second half Puel's team showed no game that will yield a European ticket at the end of this season. In terms of the number of points achieved, AS Saint-Étienne still belongs to the top of the rankings after five games, but not in terms of the number of passes sent. With an average of 420 passes per game, Puel's team sends almost forty percent fewer passes than, for example, Paris Saint-Germain and thus les Verts do not yet know how to impose their opponents. The past two games have already led to a loss of points and Puel will have to puzzle with his line-up to prevent that from happening again on Saturday.
