Leicester - Chelsea Prediction, Picks and Tips

The 19th matchday of the English Premier League was officially concluded on Monday evening, but only four teams have actually played 19 games. Several catch-up games are still on the program in the coming weeks, one of these matches is the top match between Leicester and Chelsea on Tuesday evening. The game was originally scheduled for matchday 18, but instead of the previous week, it will now be played this week. In the event of success, the host even wins the championship lead. In addition, the top game is made explosive by the fact that some English media recently launched Leicester head coach Brendan Rodgers as a possible successor to Frank Lampard at Chelsea. The former Liverpool coach could advertise himself again with a home win. The question, however, is whether a commitment to the blues would even be an option. The game at King Power Stadium starts on Tuesday evening at 20:15 p.m.

Leicester striker Jamie Vardy was unable to end his personal “home goal suspension” against Southampton FC, but Leicester celebrated a win after the game. Thanks to James Maddison and Harvey Barnes, Leicester deservedly won 2-0 in the home game against the Hasenhüttl-Elf. The absence of Saints' top striker Danny Ings (is in quarantine) was felt everywhere. Leicester left nothing wrong and Kasper Schmeichel experienced a quiet evening at his 400th appearance. There were concerns, because the Rodgers-Elf had to accept some disappointments in the home stadium this season. West Ham, Aston Villa, Fulham and Everton were able to celebrate a victory at Leicester, so the Foxes conceded four of the five previous defeats at their home stadium. Thanks to the success against the Saints, at least the home record with four wins and four losses as well as a draw is now balanced. Leicester owes its chance to lead the table to its outstanding performance outside of its own city. Nine guest appearances have been made so far and Vardy & Co. have been able to collect 22 out of a possible 27 points. Together with Manchester United, Leicester is in first place on the away table. To climb from first place, a second home win in a row is now required, which has not yet been achieved in the 2020/21 season. Some Leicester supporters frowned when Jamie Vardy left the pitch in the closing stages and grabbed his back thigh. His commitment to the top game is not yet fully assured, but Brendan Rodgers was cautiously optimistic on social networks that his most dangerous attacker will get fit in time. The ex-Freiburg resident Caglar Söyüncü may also celebrate his starting comeback. The 24-year-old was last out of action for a long time due to adductor problems and only returned to a longer mission against Southampton after Wesley Fofana was in danger of being yellow-red. Otherwise, Brendan Rodgers is unlikely to make any changes for the top game. After the duel against the Blues, Leicester finally has over a week to regenerate, the next competitive game is not on the program until January 27th.

On Boxing Day, Chelsea suffered a derby defeat against Arsenal, which marked the start of the comeback for the Gunners. The blues supporters themselves now hope that a success in the derby means the end of the crisis. The Champions League participant couldn't really shine, but in the end, thanks to a goal from Mason Mount, a 1-0 win against promoted Fulham was recorded. Chelsea played in the majority over one half, but needed a lot of patience to break through the defensive bulwark. There was no sense of achievement for Timo Werner, who carelessly awarded a top-class player in stoppage time. At least he was used in contrast to Kai Havertz, the ex-Leverkusen had to stay on the bench for 90 minutes. Before the success at Craven Cottage, the Blues could only win one of the last six league games and were accordingly ranked in the Premier League table. Fortunately, the competition also drops points at regular intervals and thus the top of the table is not too far away. In view of this negative run, a deficit of “only” eight points on leaders Manchester United is manageable. But the direct duels are of enormous importance this season. With a defeat at King Power Stadium, Chelsea would slowly but surely lose sight of the home side. They are currently six points behind Leicester. The win in the derby was a success of morals and will, but the blues were once again poor in terms of play. Last season, Chelsea had only three points more on the credit side after 18 league games, but the mood was much more euphoric. Chelsea scored the same number of goals (33) and conceded fewer goals this season than a year ago (21). Nevertheless, the Blues have not yet been able to meet the increased expectations. In addition, many fans ask themselves why several players are in a performance slump for weeks. This applies in particular to the ex-Bundesliga players (Havertz, Werner, Pulisic), who are rarely able to convince and therefore always have to make do with a seat on the bench. In terms of names, Chelsea will definitely have a team in 2020/21 that can play for the title. So far, however, the actors on the green grass have not given this proof. And accordingly, it is not really understandable that in the top game Leicester against Chelsea, the prognosis of the guest victory is seen as the most likely outcome.
