Ghana is one of the big favorites at the Africa Cup of Nations. This favorite role was already underpinned in qualifying, where the Black Stars top the table in Group C with two wins in a row. With group competitors such as South Africa, Sudan and Sao Tome & Principe, the entry of the Black Stars into the big tournament on the black continent should not be endangered.
 
Ghana have not conceded a goal in either group. Neither the South African nor the Sao-Tomese national team could crack the Ghanaians' strong defense. In the last international break, the West Africans played for the first time since November 2019. After the almost one year break in the game of the Black Stars, there was a defeat against Mali (0: 3) and a victory over Qatar (5: 1).

The 2015 Africa Cup runner-up made a particularly positive impression at the last international match against the Qatari national team. The Black Stars scored five goals against the upcoming World Cup hosts. Two of them went to Andre Ayew, who made his 90th international match for the Ghanaian national team against Qatar.

At the home game against the Sudanese it remains uncertain for the time being which starting XI will send national coach Charles Akonnor onto the field. After two victories in a row, there is definitely scope for the 46-year-old Ghanaian, who has promising options in the current squad.

Akonnor will have to do without players like Schlupp, Ofori and Agbenyenu due to injury during this international break. Most recently, Thomas Partey canceled his participation at short notice.   In the Africa Cup of Nations qualification, Sudan lost in the last group game against South Africa, which meant that an interim starting place for the big tournament was lost for the time being. In order to take that place in the table again, the Sudanese have to score against Ghana on Thursday evening. If the current form of "Sokoor Al-Jediane" is concerned, Ghana vs. Sudan, however, does not favor the guests.
 
In the last seven international matches, Sudan have not won. The last time the Sudanese won the group opener of the Africa Cup of Nations qualification, the home game against Sao Tome. In the last international break last October, the "Sokoor Al-Jediane" suffered a defeat and a draw in the internationals against Tunisia (0: 3) and Togo (1: 1).

It is therefore rather unrealistic that after the recent weak appearances of the Sudanese, of all things, the difficult away game will be mastered by the group favorites from Ghana. Abroad, there has been no away win for Sudan since September 2019. The only encouraging factor is the fact that more than one goal was conceded in only one of the last four away games.

With Ammar Taifour (Bastia) and Mohamed Abdelrahman (Bordj Bou Arreridj) only two legionaries are represented in the current squad of the Sudanese. With four goals in seven international appearances, the latter is one of the most dangerous players in the ranks of the "Sokoor Al-Jediane".

Top scorer Muhannad Tahir, who is currently under contract with Al-Hilal Obeid, has not been appointed. Coach Hamdan Hamad is likely to give his team a similar performance against Ghana as they did in the last friendly against Ethiopia (2-2). Major changes are not to be expected.
