Genk - Oostende Prediction, Picks and Taips

Genk and Ostend are surprisingly on the same number of points, namely eight. You wouldn't have expected that at the start of the season, but the facts are some. Due to the better goal difference, Ostend is even ranked higher thanks to Genk.

Genk had a disappointing start to the competition, with the low point being the 5-2 loss against Beerschot. That humiliation was too much for the Genk board and that is why it got rid of trainer Hannes Wolf. After no agreement was found with Frank Vercauteren, Genk went all out for Jess Thorup. That seems a very sensible choice, as he has shown great things with Ghent and achieved great results. Thorup will therefore have to be the man to turn the tide at Genk. After all, terrible football was played. Those eight points and ninth place actually only tell half the story. The Smurfs managed to win against a Mechelen out of shape and a Waregem that has had its day under the current trainer Francky Dury. For the rest, however, it was beating on the chin for the supporters. Hopefully that will now change under the new trainer.

If you look at the results of Ostend, you might think that this team is in good shape. Winning 0-1 at Mechelen and then defeating Leuven at home 3-1, those are good results after all. It also did not lose in its last matches against Anderlecht and Sint-Truiden. But nothing could be further from the truth, because Ostend always played mediocre football. Especially against Leuven, the victory was not really deserved and at least open to discussion, as the referee went wrong a number of times. However, there is a cheerful atmosphere among the players and the trainer himself. They think they are on the right track, as evidenced by the postmatch interview with Jelle Bataille: 'This is very satisfying and it is also deserved when you see how we played in the previous weeks. I am very proud of the team and the way we play. OHL was under pressure from minute one and they have not come out of it except for the penalty stage. This system does require a lot of energy. We can keep that up for longer in every match and I think that we will complete the 90 minutes in this way within two weeks with our fingers in the nose. ' A lot of self-confidence, also important!
