Cambuur - Nijmegen Prediction, Picks and Taips

Cambuur was head and shoulders above the others last season, but was unable to promote despite the first place. More than enough attention has been paid to it by Dutch media, but the Frisians will try to repeat the trick next season. FC Eindhoven must be beaten first.

The two-time champion of the Eerste Divisie was fast on her way to her third title. Of the 29 games played, only five were lost and with that Henk de Jong's team was in the lead from match day one. With Jamie Jacobs and Robin Maulun in midfield, Cambuur had a lot of creativity. They regularly managed to put top scorer Robert Mühren in position. Henk de Jong was happy with his 31-year-old center forward, who sporadically did not score a match. He was the star of Leeuwarden with 26 goals and 7 assists in 29 games. Cambuur ended the season at the top in March with four points ahead of De Graafschap. The gap to third place was no less than eleven points and therefore promotion seemed inevitable. The KNVB decided differently and so the Yellow-Blue will play Kitchen Champion Division football for another year. Cambuur recently attracted Go Ahead Eagles striker Maarten Pouwels and Young Ajax back Jasper ter Heide. Strongman Mühren, who is under contract with Zulte Waregem, was also hired for another season. On the other hand, there was the return of Sam Hendriks and George McEachran to OH Leuven and Chelsea. Cambuur had a strong preparation with that team. ONS Sneek was beaten 11-0 and the Harkemase Boys were beaten 4-1. They also won against Eredivisie clubs PEC Zwolle and FC Emmen. Remarkably, there was a 0-4 loss against FC Volendam, which does damage to a sparkling preparation.

NEC Nijmegen had a mediocre volume at the second level last season. Since the relegation in 2016, the first year has been relatively strong. They finished third and just missed promotion. However, the people of Nijmegen then dropped to the right row and there were hardly any promotion opportunities. Not even the last season under Francois Gesthuizen. The club had a disappointing season with some bright spots. In the 1-7 victory against Telstar, everything came out for the Nijmegen team, but that was only one of the twelve victories. With a minimal gap between positions 5 to 10, there was still plenty possible for NEC - which finished eighth -. Zian Flemming, Ole Romeney and Jonathan Okita were very strong offensively and at least created enough opportunities. Next season, 38-year-old teacher Rogier Meijer will be at the helm of Nijmegen. However, he faces a tough task, because a number of players have left NEC. The fast-paced winger Anthony Musaba left for AS Monaco for 2.5 million. Mike Trésor Ndayishimiye also chose Willem II over NEC, resulting in an additional half million. For a club that is struggling with the corona crisis, these are downright good figures. Josef Kvida, Bas Kuipers, Randy Wolters, Mart Dijkstra and Tom Overtoom also left Gelderland. Anton Fase, Rangelo Janga, Kevin Bukusu, Jordy Bruijn, Mathias de Wolf and Elayis Tavsan saw the point of playing in De Goffert. The 36-year-old Sampdoria midfielder Édgar Barreto also returned to Nijmegen. NEC defeated De Treffers (0-2), VV UNA (1-3), TOP Oss (0-4) and Eredivisionist RKC Waalwijk (2-1) in the preparation. Only against the German SV Straelen from the Regionalliga West was lost 3-0.
