Burnley - Manchester City Prediction, Picks and Taips

Burnley and Manchester City both lost points in the league over the weekend. On Wednesday evening, these two clubs will meet in the cup tournament with a quarter-final place in the Carabao Cup as the bet.

At Burnley they know that it will be very difficult to beat Manchester City on Wednesday evening. The last three years Manchester City managed to win the Carabao Cup and Burnley must have a very good day if it wants to eliminate Manchester City from the cup tournament early after years. Moreover, they do not keep the best memories of the last encounters with Manchester City at Burnley: in four of the last five duels with Pep Guardiola's team, Sean Dyche and his men have had to concede four or more goals. Burnley, for example, went down 5-0 at the Etihad Stadium three months ago. Burnley also went down in the Premier League last weekend. On Saturday evening, Burnley received a visit from Southampton at Turf Moor and an early goal against former Burnley player Danny Ings was not overcome by Dyche's team. Given the odds, Burnley might have been entitled to a point against Southampton. After the defeat at Leicester City (4-2) a week earlier, the counter at Burnley is still at zero points after two games. The only two victories Burnley recorded in the current football season were in the Carabao Cup duels with Sheffield United (1-1, win after penalties) and Millwall (0-2). Burnley may be able to continue that successful cup series against Manchester City, but it is abundantly clear that the home side is the underdog in this game.

Manchester City managed to win the Carabao Cup in 2018, 2019 and 2020. Guardiola hopes to win England's second cup tournament for the fourth time in a row with The Citizens soon. Yet a new success in the Carabao Cup is at the very bottom of Manchester City's wish list. For Manchester City, this season really only counts winning the Premier League and the Champions League. In the Premier League, Manchester City has already lost their first point after last weekend's home game against Leicester City (2-5 defeat). Manchester City took the lead early in the first half against Leicester City by a goal from former Leicester tastemaker Riyad Mahrez. In the first half, there also seemed to be little going on for Manchester City, but after the break Guardiola's team collapsed like a house of cards. The fact that The Citizens had to take no less than three penalties did not help either, but none of these penalties was given unfairly. The defense remains a concern for Guardiola, who is therefore also working on the arrival of Rúben Dias. The 23-year-old Portuguese comes over from Benfica and is involved in an exchange deal with Nicolás Otamendi. At the time of writing, this deal has not yet been officially closed. The cup match with Burnley is therefore too early for Dias anyway.
