Barcelona – Mallorca, Picks and Tips
Barcelona's form is declining. After at one point being top of the 2022 competition rankings, the Catalans have slowed down a lot. And it all culminated in elimination from the Europa League. A competition in which the Catalans were tipped to have the best chance of winning the title. There was that disappointing 2-3, right at the Camp Nou, against Eintracht Frankfurt. That was after the Germans were 3-0 up at one point, much to everyone's amazement. And the poor form continued after elimination from Europe. The team won the away match against Real Sociedad, but the performance was still poor. With the only shot on goal for the Basques, Barca scored and left San Sebastian with all three points. Disappointment came again in the final round. Barca lost at home to Rayo Vallecano, 0-1. But what troubled was the play of the Catalans, who failed to really put the visitors' goal in danger. It was the 6th defeat of the season for the Catalans and their fourth on home soil. Although he started his excellent tenure at the helm of the team he made history with, Xavi has a much lower winning percentage than other coaches with the same number of games in charge of the Catalans. The Mallorca game must be won. Both in terms of morale and goal. A possible semi-final defeat would further deepen the crisis of the Catalan team. Can the hosts win the Barcelona-Mallorca match without any emotions?
Mallorca are fighting to stay in the Premier League. Javier Aguirre's team is 16th in La Liga with 32 points. However, the current form is not good for the host team. In their last five league games, Mallorca have won two and lost three. One of the two wins came, surprisingly, against Atletico Madrid, 1-0. In total, Mallorca have 8 wins this season. At the other end of the scale, there are no fewer than 17 defeats for Aguirre's side. Morale, however, is slightly better. In the last round, Mallorca won 3-2 against last-placed Alaves. It was an important win. Both in terms of being a win against a relegation struggler and in terms of morale. In away games this season, Mallorca is doing very badly. Aguirre's side is second last in this respect, with only 8 points accumulated. Two wins and two draws are Mallorca's only positive results away from home. And the form in the last five away games is more than disastrous. Straight defeats for Aguirre's side, who have conceded no less than 11 goals. The most were in the 3-4 defeat at Celta. In total, the team conceded 36 goals in their 16 away games. The match at the Camp Nou promises to be more than difficult.
