B. Monchengladbach - Dortmund Prediction, Picks and Tips

After a day without Bundesliga football on Thursday, we will continue with the German league on Friday. A new round of play starts with a match between the two Borussias. Gladbach takes on Dortmund in-house.

Borussia Mönchengladbach took the full loot of three points in the midweek round of play. In a home game against the mediocre Werder Bremen, nothing less was expected from Die Fohlen. Yet it was not easy against the disciplined playing northerners. A striking header from Nico Elvedi in the second half turned out to be the only goal of the game. Gladbach had a hard time in the final phase, the goal scorer also saw. "Lately we have often conceded goals in the final minutes, but this time we defended well," said Elvedi, who also had to admit that it had not been against. "We were also a bit lucky," said the Swiss. Mazzy or not, the three points were particularly welcome at Die Fohlen, who have European ambitions, and would prefer to enter the Champions League. Gladbach has started 2021 well, with ten points from four matches. They are now on 28 points, one less than number four Borussia Dortmund has. Friday's game in Borussia Park is therefore one of great importance. After a long suspension - due to a red card after spitting - Marcus Thuram is back in the match selection. Trainer Marco Rose could immediately appeal to the Frenchman again.

Borussia Dortmund again does not seem to be able to compete for the national title this season. Looking at the qualities of the teams next to Bayern Munich, Dortmund is the Bavarian club's most realistic challenger. But also this season, the Westfalen simply too often miss points to really compete for the championship. Last weekend, Der BVB got no further than a 1-1 draw in their own stadium against FSV Mainz 05, and last Tuesday the yellow-blacks lost a visit to Bayer Leverkusen (2-1). The result of the repeated loss of points is that the backlog on top of the list has now risen to ten points; there may therefore be a line through the title ambitions. This season, a place in the top four is again the highest possible. Given the expensive household in Dortmund, a starting ticket for the Champions League, with the accompanying millions in revenues, is an absolute requirement. Dortmund therefore has a clear mission for the second half of the season. Emre Can returns from suspension on Friday. His place in the penalty bench is taken over by Thomas Delaney, who received his fifth yellow card of this season on Tuesday.
