Lately, the Basques have been alternating very good results with less successful games. In the previous five rounds of LaLiga, the "lions" of Bilbao drew with Getafe and Villarreal (1-1 in both matches), lost vs Celta Vigo right at San Mames (0-2) and beat Elche (2-1) and Cadiz (3-2). Atletico, on the other hand, had a very good run up to their UEFA Champions League quarter-final tie against Manchester City (0-1 on aggregate). Then came the loss of precious points against RCD Mallorca (0-1) or in the last round game vs Granada (0-0). In between these results was a narrow win against Espanyol (2-1). After 33 matches, Los Colchoneros are in fourth place in the Primera Division, four points above Real Betis. They are, however, only two 'lengths' behind second-placed Barcelona.
