AS Roma - Spezia Prediction, Picks and Tips

Roma and Spezia meet for the second time in one week in Rome. After the midweek Coppa Italia, it is now time for the Serie A, in which Roma is looking for rehabilitation.

AS Roma started the season somewhat disappointing, but then had a good taste for it. Especially at home, AS Roma was unbeatable and this brought the team of Paulo Fonseca to third place. The Romans still offered excellent opposition against top teams such as Inter, AC Milan and Juventus and took a point in all three games. However, things went wrong in the Derby Della Capitale last week, when AS Roma had to visit city rivals Lazio. AS Roma was considerably outclassed and lost 3-0 thanks to goals from Ciro Immobile and Luis Alberto. In the Coppa Italia, AS Roma could take revenge against Spezia by reaching the quarter finals of the cup tournament. However, this did not go as planned. Fonseca chose a lot of other names and within fifteen minutes it was already 0-2 for Spezia. In the second half, the Romans made up for this deficit and even came back to 2-2. In extra time, AS Roma blundered by making one too many changes in addition to two red cards. AS Roma eventually lost 2-4, but even with a victory it was probably eliminated by not adhering to the substitution rules. The club also made a mistake in the first round by designating Amadou Diawara as an under-23 player, while he had already passed 23. That ultimately cost AS Roma a point against Hellas Verona.

Vincenzo Italiana's team makes a big impression in the Serie A. Benevento Calcio, the club is doing well in Italy's highest football competition. Still, the gap to the relegation zone is only five points, so the team is certainly not out of trouble yet. Spezia is doing very well and especially in January it started its way up the rankings. A dozen of Spezia eventually managed to beat number four Napoli, while Sampdoria was also beaten. In a crucial game against - current relegation candidate - Torino was drawn scoreless. The club from Linguria rose from eighteenth to thirteenth place within a few weeks. Especially after the successful cup match earlier this week, the club of ex-Eredivisionists Jeroen Zoet and Julian Chabot will feel that there is something to be gained. Spezia was the inferior party for ninety minutes, but in the extension it made good use of the man-more situation. Spezia also made it pretty difficult for Inter, Lazio and Napoli.
