The Friday evening game of the third round of the new season is between FC Twente and FC Groningen. The home team is still unbeaten and would like to deal with the visitors.

FC Twente had started the season well, with a home win against Fortuna Sittard (2-0). Last week, however, the Tukkers faced a much heavier task, with an away match against Feyenoord. Twente, however, had a dream start, with an early lead. However, it could not be held. The Orientals played a reasonable game, although the team did not play much more offensively in the second half. In the absolute final phase, the team escaped defeat three times. "We had a reasonable reply throughout the match, but not during injury time," coach Ron Jans was realistic to the club's own media after the match in Rotterdam. "We got off very well." Anyway, Twente is still unbeaten after two rounds of play, and who knows what will be possible this season, should Groningen be defeated in the Grolsch Veste on Friday.

FC Groningen had a disappointing first day of play. The home defeat against PSV had a lot to do with that, but the disappointment about the injured son Arjen Robben playing an even bigger role. Without Robben, Groningen had to play against ADO Den Haag last week. In Hofstad there was a competition of a qualitatively questionable level. It was significant that the home team's own goal was needed for Groningen to win (0-1). Trainer Danny Buijs expressed his concerns about the attacking impotence of his team afterwards. The coach hopes that Abdou Harroui, from Sparta Rotterdam, will strengthen the selection. This seems a necessity, also since things no longer seem to be going well between Groningen and Ajdin Hrustic. The Australian has set his sights on a transfer to Eintracht Frankfurt, but the FCG club management thinks the amount offered by the Germans is still too low.
