Tottenham - Everton Prediction, Picks and Taips

The strongly renewed Everton starts the competition with an away match at Tottenham Hotspur. Both clubs experienced a football year last season to quickly forget. Hoping for better times, Tottenham and Everton start a new season at Spurs stadium on Sunday.

José Mourinho is entering his first full season as a Tottenham manager. Last November, the Portuguese took over from Mauricio Pochettino. Under Mourinho, Tottenham did not play more attractive football, but the results were slightly better. The North Londoners finished in sixth place last season and are therefore assured of Europa League football this season. Nevertheless, the full priority in the coming months will be with the Premier League, as Tottenham would like to qualify for the Champions League via the competition. Europa League win would also mean Champions League qualification, but the European tournament is only a life saver. Tottenham, on the other hand, is not going to qualify for the billion dollar ball easily through the competition, because there are more hijackers on the coast. On paper, Mourinho seems to have a better team than last season. With Jan Vertonghen, Mourinho has lost a former base customer, but the Belgian defender was also not much in the plans in the last matches. On the other hand, Tottenham has strengthened itself well with the arrival of Pierre-Emile Höjbjerg (Southampton) and Matt Doherty (Wolverhampton). After wins at Ipswich Town (3-0), Reading (4-1) and Birmingham City (1-0), the Spurs closed their preparations last weekend with a 2-1 defeat at Watford.

Last season was a season to forget for Everton. The club from Liverpool finished in a disappointing twelfth place and had a gray season. The problem with The Toffees was mainly in midfield. Carlo Ancelotti didn't really have a midfield that made you sit on the edge of your seat: it was all very predictable. That will probably be different this season, because thanks to three purchases from technical director Marcel Brands, Ancelotti suddenly has access to excellent midfield. In fact, by Everton standards, the Italian manager has a great middle line. Abdoulaye Doucouré (Watford), Allan (Napoli) and James Rodríguez (Real Madrid) are three midfielders who have already earned their spurs in football. Ancelotti has worked with the latter two before and Doucouré has everything a contemporary midfielder needs. In short: this season we can expect a lot from Everton, which this summer said goodbye to Djibril Sidibé (returned to AS Monaco), Morgan Schneiderlin (OGC Nice) and Leighton Baines (retired). They also did not experience the practice matches that Everton played in the run-up to the competition resumption. The Toffees have been practicing against Blackpool (3-3) and Preston North End (2-0) in recent weeks. Not the most appealing opponents, so against Tottenham will have to show where Everton really stands at the moment.
