Southampton - Arsenal Prediction, Picks and Taips
The ailing Arsenal will play an away game at Southampton on Thursday. Normally Londoners would take three points at St. Mary's Stadium. Arsenal, on the other hand, has had a bad start to Project Restart, so there is absolutely no certainty that Arsenal will beat Southampton on Thursday-evening.
Southampton is fourteenth in the Premier League. The Saints are at 37 points after thirty games and are therefore almost safe. It is only a matter of time before Southampton has officially enforced itself. Last season, Southampton finished in sixteenth place in the Premier League and The Saints battled to relegation to the last gasp. This season Southampton need not worry about that: Ralph Hasenhüttl has made sure that his team played safe relatively early.
Last Friday, Southampton was allowed to work for the first time in months. The Saints played an away game at last-minute Norwich City and convincingly won 0-3 on Carrow Road. Danny Ings, Stuart Armstrong and Nathan Redmond were all three accurate in the Hasenhüttl formation in the second. Moussa Djenepo is missing from Southampton on Thursday-evening due to a suspension. Behind Shane Long's name is another question mark. Last season Southampton was still 3-2 too strong for Arsenal at its own St. Mary's Stadium and The Saints are confident that they can also achieve a good result on Thursday evening.
The years when Arsenal competed for a Champions League ticket with clubs such as Liverpool, Manchester United and Chelsea are long gone. Since the departure of Arsené Wenger, it is actually all grief and gloom among the North Londoners. In the last three seasons, Arsenal never finished in the top 4 of the Premier League and The Gunners will not succeed this season either. After thirty games, Arsenal has only collected forty points and it is not inconceivable that the North Londoners will have no European obligations for the first time in years next season.
Last Wednesday, Arsenal lost 3-0 to Manchester City at Etihad Stadium. The Mikel Arteta team had to correct something last weekend in the game with Brighton. That game did not go as hoped for Arsenal, however: the North Londoners lost 2-1 in the coastal city. Arsenal still took the lead due to a goal from Nicolas Pépé. A few minutes later, however, Brighton equalized again and in the final phase The Gunners had to take another hit. Bernd Leno got injured against Brighton and will not play again this season. With that, Arsenal loses another strongman: The Gunners must miss no less than eight players against Southampton due to injuries or suspensions.
