Servette (Sui) - Ruzomberok (Svk) Prediction, Picks and Taips
Are on the program from Tuesday to Thursday in the first round of the UEFA Europa League qualification. Due to the tight schedule this year, the promoted to the second round will be determined in just one game.
In many places the teams are in the middle of preparation and are now facing a trend-setting 90 - or maybe 120 - minutes. In the French part of Switzerland there is a duel between Servette Geneva and Ruzomberok from Slovakia.
For the home side from French-speaking Switzerland this represents a comeback on the international stage. Servette Geneva impressed across the board as a climber and secured the ticket for Europe with fourth place. The performances have left an impression and that's why the best bookmakers see Servette Geneva against Ruzomberok as clear favorites according to current odds.
Head coach Alain Geiger's team had declared relegation as a goal last season. The newcomer played first class again for the first time since 2012/13 and was an asset to the Super League right away. With a spectacular style of play, the team settled in the upper half of the table from the start.
With 49 points, expectations were clearly exceeded and thanks to fourth place in the Super League table, the international return (most recently 2012) was fixed. 49 points and a goal difference of plus 9 also ensure that the "Grenats" are the best promoted team since the 2012/13 season (at that time St. Gallen with 59 points). Overall, it was even the third best “promoted season” since the introduction of the Super League.
Even more would have been possible, because the club ran out of steam in the season finale. In the intensive time with only English weeks, the thin squad became a problem. Injuries as well as the enormous strain ensured that the team only collected five points in the last seven games.
The meticulous worker Alain Geiger played a large part in the success. The 59-year-old is considered a tactical fox who analyzes the opponents down to the smallest detail and adjusts his own team accordingly. Servette is extremely variable and can put a lot of emphasis on possession of the ball with high counter-pressing as well as stand low and become dangerous with lightning-fast switching.
The Swiss are accordingly difficult to calculate and after the almost four-week break, the battery should be recharged. Servette Geneva’s favorite role against Ruzomberok according to current odds is understandable.
Since the 1997/98 season, the team from Rosenberg (as the city is called in German) has played in the Slovak upper house of football and celebrated the greatest success in the club's history at the 100th anniversary of the club in 2006 with the championship title.
The club has been a long way from such successes in recent years. The qualification for the current Europa League season can be described as happy. In the basic round of the Slovak championship, the team of head coach Jan Haspra finished sixth and could not improve in the championship round either.
After the championship round, however, the national Europa League playoff was still on the agenda. After victories against fifth (Micholavce) and fourth (Spartak Trnava), Ruzomborek was able to secure the ticket for Europe via detours. In 2019/20, the international adventure was short-lived and there were two 0-2 defeats against Levski Sofia.
The conditions for the EL adventure to last longer this summer are not necessarily in place. The current form of the guests from Slovakia can only be described as "manageable". There were no / hardly any changes in the squad, but the team is extremely weak.
Four games have already been played in the Slovak Fortuna League, but Ruzomberok has not yet celebrated a win (three draws, one defeat). In view of the latest performance, a tip on the guests between Servette Geneva and Ruzomberok is strongly discouraged.
