RB Leipzig - Atl. Madrid Prediction, Picks and Taips

The Estadio Jose Alvalade in Lisbon is normally the home of Sporting CP, but will be the setting for the squatter between RB Leipzig and Atletico Madrid in the quarter-finals of the Champions League on Thursday evening. Both teams are only two victories away from a final place in the European Championship Ball!

RB Leipzig has made enormous progress in recent years, both within and outside its own borders, but the East Germans have not yet been able to take the last (and most difficult) step towards the absolute top. After all, in the Bundesliga, RB Leipzig had to let Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund go ahead again, although it made a big impression in the Champions League. Die Roten Bullen crowned themselves as group winner in the group stage, and settled in the eighth finals of the European million ball over two duels with no less than 4-0 against the Tottenham Hotspur of Jose Mourinho. The German self-confidence is therefore high, also because RB Leipzig only had to accept a defeat in its last fifteen league matches. However, Julian Nagelsmann's team only managed to win once in their own Red Bull Arena since the corona break, so the fact that this game is played on neutral territory could turn out favorably for the Germans. Less favorable, however, is that they can no longer rely on goal-getter Timo Werner, who now defends Chelsea's colors. His intended replacement Hwang Hee-Chan is not eligible to play, while the Dane Yussuf Poulsen is a big question mark for the squatter against Atletico Madrid. The attack of the Germans is therefore quite stripped down, although Nagelsmann will not want to make any concessions to his playing style. He likes to let his team play attacking football at a fast pace.

In contrast to newcomer RB Leipzig, Atletico Madrid is of course brimming with European experience. In 2014 and 2016, the Spaniards were in the final of the Champions League, and in 2018 they won the Europa League. This season, however, the Madrid people had a difficult start, and after the embarrassing cup elimination against third division Cultural Leonesa, there were even open doubts about Diego Simeone, who has been at the helm of Los Colchoneros for almost nine years. Atletico Madrid, however, managed to recover and, after a strong final sprint, still finished in a neat third place in LaLiga behind eternal rivals Real Madrid and FC Barcelona. The highlight, however, was the dazzling diptych against Liverpool in the eighth finals of the Champions League, in which the Spaniards got the much stronger English to their knees. Atletico Madrid has thus risen from the proverbial ashes again, and also showed after the corona break that it can achieve excellent results even without the input of its fanatical supporters. Yet it is certainly not all rose scent and moonshine in the Wanda Metropolitano. Sime Vrsaljko and Angel Correa tested positive for corona earlier this week and can therefore not take action on Thursday evening. Simeone works with a relatively narrow selection, so the Spaniards are lucky that the virus has not spread further around. Apart from Correa and Vrsaljko, Simeone can dispose of his entire roster.
