Molde (Nor) - Ferencvaros (Hun) Prediction, Picks and Taips
In the play-offs of the Champions League, the Norwegian national champion Molde and the Hungarian national champion Ferencvaros cross swords. Both teams already dream of the prestige and the millions of the European champions ball.
Molde is the reigning champion of Norway, but because the Norwegian Eliteserien is not highly regarded, the blue shirts have been sentenced to the preliminary rounds of the Champions League. In the previous qualifying matches, the Norwegians already managed to eliminate Celje (1-2) and Qarabag (0-0, win after penalties).
Molde has been active for a while and is therefore in perfect condition, also because the Eliteserien as a summer competition is already halfway through. With four defeats in the last five league matches, the team of trainer Erling Moe is hopelessly out of shape, and title prolongation seems utopian. Molde's decline is largely due to the mediocre form of star player Leke James. The Nigerian attacker only managed to score twice in his last ten official matches, and seems to be more concerned with a transfer in the back of his mind. James, who became Norway's vice-top scorer last season, has only one year left, so Molde has to sell him now if he wants to make some more money from him.
Ferencvaros is more or less in the same boat as Molde. The club from Budapest crowned itself last season for the 31st time in club history as champion of Hungary, but must still try to obtain a starting ticket for the Champions League through the preliminary rounds. The green and white, however, are doing well, because they have already managed to deal with the champions of Sweden (Djurgarden), Scotland (Celtic) and Croatia (Dinamo Zagreb). The men of trainer Sergei Rebrov are therefore bursting with self-confidence.
At Ferencvaros, they have of course been under the spell of the Champions League for quite some time. Logical, because the 1995-1996 season was the first and for the time being also the only time that the Hungarian top club was present at the European champions ball. "We may never get such a great opportunity as now," says sports journalist Hajdu Istvan. Man in shape is Norwegian striker Tokmac Nguen. He already scored four goals in the first three rounds of the Hungarian league, and was also accurate in the encounters with Djurgarden (two goals) and Celtic.
