Middlesbrough - Barnsley Prediction, Picks and Taips
Middlesbrough and Barnsley met earlier this season in the Carabao Cup. Barnsley was 2-0 too strong at the Riverside Stadium. A preview of this season's second showdown!
Middlesbrough also did not win the third game of this Championship season. After a defeat at Watford (1-0) and a draw against Bournemouth (1-1), the game against Queens Park Rangers ended in a 1-1 draw. Chuba Akpom livened up his Boro debut with a goal. The opening goal against QPR was his first Championship goal since December 2015. At the time, the striker was on loan at Hull City. Akpom started right next to Britt Assombalonga due to an injury by Ashley Fletcher. Fletcher is likely to be available again in the game against Barnsley. Anfernee Dijksteel was also in the base. The Dutch wing defender won a starting place at Boro at the start of last season, but was then offside for a long time due to an injury. This season, Neil Warnock again calls on the recovered Dijksteel.
Warnock is still looking for reinforcements for his selection in the last weeks of the transfer period. One of the players Warnock is interested in is Patrick Roberts. The Manchester City winger already played for Boro last season and has again received an offer to temporarily play at the Riverside Stadium. Oskar Buur is also mentioned as temporary reinforcement. The Wolverhampton Wanderers defender must fill in the gap left by the injured Grant Hall.
Barnsley has captured the first point of this Championship season. At home, Coventry City was held in a goalless draw. Neither team got any great chances and so it was more than deserved that the points were split equally. Barnsley is one of three teams in the Championship without goals. Nottingham Forest and Wycombe Wanderers have not yet managed to find it either. It will be a difficult task to be accurate when visiting the stiff Middlesbrough. Barnsley saw the central defense duo Mads Andersen and Michal Helik return to the game with Coventry. Both players were sent off in the game against Reading and missed the big defeat at Chelsea (6-0).
This week it became clear that the future of trainer Gerhard Struber at Barnsley is uncertain. The successful Austrian coach has been approached by New York Red Bulls. Struber has a clause in his contract stating that Struber may talk to other clubs if a certain amount is on the table. According to various sources, the American football club has complied with this. It would be a huge downer for The Tykes. The current team is largely aligned with Struber's tactics. In addition, Barnsley also has five German-speaking players who were all recruited after Struber's arrival in 2019. More information about the trainer is likely to be made soon.
