Maastricht - Helmond Prediction, Picks and Tips

MVV was eliminated in the cup on penalties on Tuesday and is looking for revenge. However, the well-running Helmond Sport is not an easy opponent for the people of Maastricht.

MVV is very difficult this season and the cup tournament was a way to add some shine. After the team from Maastricht did not have to take action for two rounds, the home game against Excelsior, also low-ranked, offered opportunities to reach the quarterfinals. Well into the second half, Darije Kalezic's team defended a 2-1 lead (after Koen Kostons and Joeri Schroijen had turned a backlog), but Siebe Horemans equalized just before time. No more goals were scored in extra time and after penalties it went wrong. There is no more honor to be won for MVV this season. Only four of the first twenty games were won, of which twice with the necessary luck. The club's player budget is among the lowest in professional football, but the various bets did not work out well. Mercenaries Zack Swanson, Bill Lathouwers, Jelle Duin and George McEachran have already left the club, while Timo Stavitski, Joy-Lance Mickels and Kai Heerings have also turned out to be bad buys. With Kürsad Sürmeli, Rico Zeegers and Brem Soumaoro, a number of players were picked up from other low-flyers from the competition.

Helmond Sport has been the ugly duckling of professional football in recent years. The Brabanders ended two seasons in a row as the last player of the Kitchen Champion Division. This year, the team of trainer Willie Boessen again seemed destined for the bottom places, because after eleven games Helmond Sport only had nine points. From November, however, things started to run smoothly for the team and the last five games were not even lost. Karim Loukili in particular is in good shape, he already scored eight hits and four assists this year. KV Mechelen mercenaries Alec van Hoorenbeeck, Gaétan Bosiers, Arno Van Keilegom and Maxime De Bie are also performing excellently. We now find Helmond Sport back in fourteenth place with 24 points from 20 matches. The most optimistic supporter will even secretly think about the play-offs, because the gap with number eight Telstar is still 'only' seven points.
