Liverpool – Benfica, Picks and Tips
It's shaping up to be a hot end to the season for Liverpool. "The Cormorants are one point behind leaders Manchester City with seven games left to play and 21 points in the bag. In the Champions League, Liverpool are one step closer to the semi-finals of the competition after a 3-1 victory in the first leg in Portugal. And on the first Saturday after Liverpool v Benfica, the Cormorants will play Manchester City in the FA Cup semi-finals. There are three trophies and Liverpool can win all of them. Before the return leg with Benfica, Liverpool played away to Manchester City. It ended in a 2-2 draw. "The 'Cormorants' were twice behind. They conceded an early goal in the 5th minute, but equalised in the 13th minute through Diogo Jota. At half-time it was 1-2 to the 'Citizens', but Liverpool scored immediately after the break through Mane, who was set up by Salah. For the match against Benfica, Liverpool have no absent players. If they qualify, Liverpool will play either Bayern Munich or Villarreal in the semi-finals of the competition.
Liverpool love meetings with Portuguese teams, at least in recent years. They trained with FC Porto, who they beat 5-1 away in the group stage, and then won 2-0 at Anfield against the Portuguese. Benfica, now, have come up against them in the Champions League quarter-finals. The first half of the first leg in Lisbon was a first half for the 'Coromorans'. Jurgen Klopp's side controlled the first half completely, with numerous chances, six shots on target and a good defence closing down all the lanes. In addition, they scored twice. Konate scored first with a header from Robertson's cross. The second goal phase had Diaz in the foreground, who headed very well for Mane, and the Liverpool striker completed a formality and pushed the ball into the empty net. Except that just after returning from the dressing room Benfica managed to score through Nunez from a Konate fumble. Then the Lusitanians had some good moments of play. Alisson was seriously tested, but the goal came the other way. At the end of a good game, Luis Diaz, transferred in January from Porto, scored for Liverpool to make the final score 3-1. The return match at Anfield should be a formality for Liverpool.
