Gaziantep FK parted ways with successful coach Marius Sumudica last weekend. The departure of the Romanian trainer is always serious, after all, the club from the Turkish pistachio town got off to a strong start to the season. In the second round of the Türkiye Kupasi, GFK will compete for the first time since being promoted to the Turkish House of Lords without Sumudica.

Konyaspor wants to seize the opportunity and get the quarter-final ticket against the black and red guests from Antep. Since then, the best result has been a quarter-finals in the 2017/18 season. In the last two seasons the Anatolian Eagles had to give up prematurely in the Turkish Cup, while Konyaspor even lost to teams from the amateur leagues.
 
In the upcoming cup game against the league rivals from Antep, the green-whites are mainly building on their own home strength. Across all competitions, Konyaspor has a record of 5-1-1 in the last seven home games, only the home game against Sivasspor was lost 0-1.

Last week the Anatolian Eagles also celebrated a surprising home win against the Turkish record champions. The otherwise weak offensive gave the heavyweight from Istanbul four goals. If the latest offensive swing is taken into the upcoming cup game, another shooting festival for the green-whites cannot be ruled out.

The guests from Antep are not exactly the best defense. Konyaspor coach Ismail Kartal will have to complain about five failures in the second round of the Türkiye Kupasi. Changes in the starting XI cannot be ruled out given the full game plan. 
 


 
 
 
 
 

Gaziantep FK parted ways with head coach Marius Sumudica with immediate effect. In the meantime, negotiations were still taking place on the Romanian's already highly endowed contract. Since there was no agreement, the exit was only a matter of time. For Sumudica's farewell match last weekend, Sivasspor went down away.

Across all competitions it was the first defeat for the black and red since the messed up season opener against Galatasaray. Gaziantep FK had previously been unbeaten for 17 competitive games in a row, so the club from the Turkish pistachio city fought its way to the international starting places of the Süper Lig.
 
For the time being, no successor for the Romanian has been announced, so GFK will tackle the cup game in Konya with an internal interim solution. After the away defeat in Sivas, it remains to be seen how the black and reds will do without the tactical finesse of Marius Sumudica.

So far, GFK has been particularly convincing in the offensive game.  The black and red statistics were by no means surprising, after all, ex-coach Sumudica was known for his offensive game philosophy.

In Konya, Gaziantep FK will have a total of four losses, including defense chief Kana-Biyik. Despite the new coach, big changes compared to the last starting XI are not expected.
