Excelsior - Almere City Prediction, Picks and Taips
After round 1, Excelsior is at the top of the Kitchen Champion Division together with NAC Breda. According to the bookmakers, Almere City was the top favorite against MVV Maastricht, but could ultimately be happy with a draw. How does this game go on Sunday afternoon?
Excelsior started very strongly at the Kitchen Champion Division this season. Last season, the away game against Young PSV was the final blow to Ricardo Moniz. After a defeat at the Herdgang, he was fired. His successor Marinus Dijkhuizen showed how it should be done in the first round. Excelsior, however, was outclassed by the Excelsior Maassluis amateurs and therefore the head coach had to put his team on edge. With new acquisitions Mitchell van Rooijen and Reuven Niemeijer in the base, the new Kitchen Champion Division season started for the Kralingers. Although there were opportunities for both teams, it was Excelsior who managed to turn the chances into goals. Thanks to goals from Ahmad Mendes Moreira and Joël Zwarts it went 0-2 into the dressing room. In the second half, Elias már Omarsson scored twice and Thomas Oude Kotte also scored. The score increased to 1-6 and Dijkhuizen let debutants Mats Wieffer and Julian Baas make their debut in professional football. The latter was equally important with an assist.
However, director Ferry de Haan was clear. Excelsior is not a title favorite and is still looking for possible reinforcements. Especially central in the back as a right winger, the Rotterdammers would like to strengthen themselves. Although they do not see themselves - like De Graafschap - as the number one title contender, the promotion wish is still there.
Almere City made a big impression in the preparation with victories against Young FC Utrecht, Young Ajax, RKC Waalwijk and FC Den Bosch. At the return of Arjen Robben on the Dutch fields, there was also a 1-1 draw against FC Groningen. The club from Flevoland is perhaps the most ambitious club in the Eerste Divisie, at least the club that reflects this ambition to the outside world. In addition to the investments in accommodation and youth training, investments were also made in the first team. The necessary experience was acquired with Ryan Koolwijk and Daniël Breedijk, while Oussama Bouyaghlafen, Fredrik Helstrup, Thibaut Lesquoy and Xian Emmers were also welcomed. These incoming transfers were therefore important, as a lot of players had left the Yanmar Stadium. With such a transformation within a selection, it remains to be seen how the team is doing. Yet it is clear in Almere; the club wants to promote to the highest level.
On Sunday evening, Almere City and MVV Maastricht also kicked off a new Kitchen Champion Division year. Almere City disappointed in-house. The game went fairly evenly, but it was MVV that had bigger chances. Precisely against a club that has stood still regarding transfers this summer, a victory was expected. Thomas Verheijden and Jearl Margaritha did have opportunities, but in the end the match ended in 0-0. After having scored nine consecutive games, this did not work against the Limburg low flyer.
