AZ will take on the Ukrainian superpower Dynamo Kiev on Tuesday evening in the Olympic Stadium in Kiev. The stakes are high, as the winner of this game qualifies for the Champions League play-offs!
 


 


 
 


Dynamo Kiev had to settle for second place behind eternal arch-rival Shakhtar Donetsk in the Ukrainian Premier League last season, and has therefore been sentenced to the preliminary rounds of the Champions League. However, the capitals took some revenge at the end of last month by beating Shakthar Donetsk 1-3 in the Ukrainian Super Cup. In the first round of the new season, the men of trainer Mircea Lucescu immediately won convincingly with 1-4 against Olimpik Donetsk. However, Ukrainian self-confidence took a hit last weekend, after Dynamo Kiev got no further than a goalless draw at home against Desna.

AZ was the big revelation of the Eredivisie last season. In the previous round, at home against Viktoria Plzen (3-1), the Noord-Hollanders crawled through the eye of the needle. It was only deep in injury time that Teun Koopmeiners signed for the equalizer from the penalty spot, after which substitute Albert Gudmundsson put things in order with two goals in extra time. AZ could not convince this early season, because the results in the preparation do not appeal to the imagination. The lack of goals in particular will cause Slot to worry, despite the fact that with players like Oussama Idrissi, Calvin Stengs and Myron Boadu there is in principle plenty of creativity and scoring ability in his team. It reminds me a bit of Ruud van Nistelrooy's ketchup story. In the run-up to this game, AZ in any case received full cooperation from the KNVB, which removed last weekend's game against FC Utrecht from the program.
