Dijon - Marseille Prediction, Picks and Tips
Dijon and Olympique Marseille managed to revive midweek after winning their league defeat last weekend. Both teams can use the three points earned in this competition well; Dijon still needs quite a few points in the fight against relegation while Olympique Marseille will have to win to finish in the top four.
On a visit to fourth division IC Croix, Dijon managed to win a 3-0 win in the eighth finals of the Coupe de France midweek. Within five minutes Antoine Kombouaré's team with a man came on the field, after which the match represented little more than an improved practice spot. In spite of this, Les Moutards, who were involved in the Ligue 1 in a heavy degradation battle, still had a hard time with the fourth division. Quite remarkably, because compared to the cup match won earlier by 6-3 against AS Saint-Étienne, Kombouaré left the ashes of his team almost intact. As always, Julio Tavares was also at the base at Les Moutards, but as often as this season, the Cape Verdean did not have enough pots to break. The striker who has been coming out of the mustard city since 2012, quickly opened the score from a penalty, but was allowed to stay in the changing room after 45 minutes. In the league, Tavares scored three times in twenty games this season, as often as in three matches in the Coupe de France. Last season, the Cape Verdean in the Ligue 1 eventually came to twelve hits, a number that he seemed to be able to surpass this season with three hits in the first two league matches. Since mid-August, however, the Cape Verdean did not score anymore in Ligue 1, one of the causes of the acute degradation of his team.
Olympique Marseille went against Stade Reims last weekend, but was able to retire midnight in an empty Orange Vélodrome with a simple 1-0 win against Girondins de Bordeaux. After an early red card for the Girondijnen, it was Boubacar Kamara who made the only goal of the match just before the break. The gap of the Marseilles riders is now nine points and it therefore seems to be difficult for the team of Rudi García to force placement for the Champions League this season. In house, the current top three already performs better than Olympique Marseille, but in away games the contrast is even greater: the Marseillenaren race for each away match on average at least 0.6 point per game less than the current top three of the Ligue 1. Nevertheless, there is also good news for Rudi García in the run-up to the meeting with Dijon: both Florian Thauvin and Kevin Strootman return to the match selection after a suspension. Together, the Frenchman and the Dutchman already had twelve goals and seven assists this season. In addition, both gentlemen are also known as poison frogs this season; Together, the men were also responsible for nine yellow cards and one red card for Thauvin this season. Thauvin is well over his ticket season this season with eleven hits in the Ligue 1 this season, but the latter of these dates back to early December 2018.
