The Brazilians' last loss was in last year's Copa America final, which they lost 1-0 to arch-rivals Argentina. During that final tournament, the Selecao also beat Chile 1-0 in the quarter-finals. After that, an almost flawless run in the preliminaries for the 2022 World Cup followed. The only points dropped came from draws against Colombia (0-0), Argentina (0-0) and Ecuador (1-1). Otherwise, there have been wins on the trot and matches including four goals scored, such as 4-1 vs Uruguay or 4-0 vs Paraguay. Brazil is first in the South American qualifiers for Qatar 2022. With 39 points from 15 games, they have a four-point lead over Argentina.
Chile has not had a successful campaign and is currently in 6th place, in the lower limit for qualification to Qatar. Martin Lasarte's boys will have to overcome Peru or Uruguay to at least make the play-offs. They are two points below the Lima side and three points behind the Montevideo 'celebs'. In their last three games, "La Roja" has had two defeats, both on home soil: 0-2 vs Ecuador and 1-2 vs Argentina. However, Chile did manage a win (3-2) away to Bolivia in their previous match.
