Barcelona – Cadiz, Picks and Tips

Barcelona comes after a disappointing failure. Defeat equivalent to elimination from the Europa League. The Catalans lost 2-3 in the return leg to Eintracht Frankfurt, after trailing 0-3 at one point! It was perhaps the biggest surprise of this knockout phase, of European competitions. The Germans were backed by a large number of supporters in the Camp Nou match, as Oliver Glasner's side were pushed from behind en route to victory. One of Barcelona's remaining goals at the end of the season has been squandered, so Xavi's side will focus solely on the league. That's where Barca still only hope for second place, with first place largely taken by rivals Real Madrid. The defeat to Frankfurt ended a run of 15 consecutive games without defeat for the Catalans. The Catalans hadn't lost since January, and then there were two extra-time defeats in the Super Cup and Spanish Cup. The last defeat in 90 minutes for Barca was in December, 0-3, in the Champions League. In the league, Barcelona has seven wins in a row. The last points lost were in the city derby, against Espanyol, in a 2-2 draw against the concitadinha. Barca are second at the moment, but tied with Sevilla. And three points above Atletico Madrid. The Cadiz game should be a mere formality. In theory. Because the team at the bottom of the table won't go down without a fight. But barring something unforeseen, Barca will score against 18th place in La Liga. Will the hosts win the Barcelona-Cadiz clash without emotion?

Cadiz is in 18th place in La Liga after 31 rounds played. Sergio's team is one point behind Mallorca, the last team to stay in La Liga. The current form is not good for Sergio's team. Cadiz have two wins in their last five league games. 1-0 against Villarreal and 2-0 against Vallecano. They were two out of the total of 5 wins Cadiz have achieved this season. The team has been defeated 13 times and drawn as many times. In terms of draws, Cadiz is first, with the most draws achieved this season. In away games, Cadiz is slightly better than overall. In the 15 matches played away from home, the team coached by Sergio has 14 points collected. But the record is still negative, with 13 goals scored and 23 conceded. Cadiz has, however, managed to win three times in away matches. The last success was at the end of January, 2-0 away to Levante. Cadiz have a chance to save themselves from relegation. With 7 rounds left to play and just one point away from the last place that guarantees the stay in the Spanish top league, Sergio's team has all the hope. It's just that the battle will be fierce. In addition to Mallorca, they are also joined by Granada, who are two points above Cadiz. As I said above, it's not the matches against Barca or the Spanish forces that matter most. Sure, any point is a bonus, but Cadiz must win those "6 point" games. The trip to Camp Nou is an opportunity for Cadiz to show that they deserve to play in La Liga again next year. Can the visitors come out of the Barcelona-Cadiz clash on a high?
