Sparta Rotterdam - Twente Prediction, Picks and Tips

A real highlight at the Castle on Friday evening. If Sparta wants to stay in the race for the championship, leader FC Twente has to be defeated.

Sparta was at the top of the season and had the leading position in sight in the winter break. The team of coach Henk Fräser has already won five matches in a row and sees the title slowly but surely disappear from view. With 42 points from 23 matches, the Spaniards are in fourth place, eight points behind leader Twente, four behind number two FC Den Bosch and a run behind number three Go Ahead Eagles. In case of a defeat at the Castle against league-leader FC Twente, the title seems to have finally disappeared. Sparta played all four matches after the winter break. Striking is that the team gave away a 2-0 lead to both Roda JC and FC Volendam and let the opponent come back to 2-2. Especially last Friday it seemed very unnecessary. In the 80th minute, Sparta was still 0-2 in the Kras Stadium against middle-engine Volendam and there seemed to be no problem. Sparta could not appeal to Mohamed Rayhi and Adil Auassar last week against Volendam. The pair had some minor injuries and had to go missing on the Dijk. It is not yet known whether they will play against Twente.

FC Twente sees the teams around them lose points every week, while it has already won seven league matches in a row. The logical consequence of this is that the Tukkers were on top of the ranking for the first time two weeks ago. The gap on number two FC Den Bosch, which lost last week, has already risen to four points. Competitors Go Ahead Eagles, Sparta and Roda JC have already been placed at seven, eight and twelve points respectively. It appeared in October and unlikely scenario, but FC Twente is currently the largest title candidate in the Kitchen Champion Division. FC Twente won all its matches after the winter break, while last week's four biggest competitors lost no less than eight out of twelve points. The aim of the club management was to keep up with the first half of the season, but with a victory at Sparta, a direct competitor can be immediately eliminated. Other good news for FC Twente is the return of Oussama Assaidi. The Moroccan winger played his third round of the season against Helmond Sport last week. He got the opportunity to crown his return with a hit, but he failed from the spot. Trainer Pusic is still very careful with him and will probably not start him in the base yet. This also applies to Fred Friday, who is still waiting for his work permit and is therefore a doubtful case.
