FC Porto – Lyon, Picks and Tips
The Portuguese haven't lost an official game since December, since that 1-3 vs Atletico Madrid in the UEFA Champions League group stage. That defeat sent the Dragons into the Europa League. Here they are doing well, however, and come after having eliminated Lazio from the competition, 4-3 on aggregate (2-1 "home" and 2-2 away). Last week, Sergio Conceicao's side won at Sporting in the semi-final round of the Portuguese Cup and took three points from their 4-2 win over Ferreira. After 25 rounds of the Primeira Liga, FC Porto is the league leader and the strong favourite to win the title this season. They are six points clear of the Lisbon Lions, the current holders of the trophy.
On the other hand, Lyon's got their first win after three rounds in Ligue 1 at the weekend. Peter Bosz's team won 4-1 at Lorient to avenge the points lost against Lens (1-1) and Lille (0-1). In the UEFA Europa League, OL reached this stage after winning a group that also included Rangers, Sparta Prague and Brondby. Returning to the French championship, here Lyon have moved closer to the European Cup places despite a modest start to the season. However, Wednesday night's guests are still only 9th in Ligue 1. The gap to Strasbourg, in 5th, is only three points, however.
