Alaves – Sevilla, Picks and Tips
Deportivo Alaves is going through a less than good period in Spain. The Basques are having a modest season and are fighting to avoid relegation. Sevilla have diametrically opposed goals to Alaves. The Andalusians are in a battle for the La Liga title with Real Madrid. The Alaves-Sevilla duel could bring important new points for Julen Lopetegui's side. Sevilla most recently played the Andalusian derby against Betis. In the end, the "rojiblanco" won 2-1 after a duel they dominated for 70 minutes. Ivan Rakitic opened the scoring in the 24th minute from the penalty spot. Munir El Haddadi doubled the hosts' advantage in the 41st minute. In the second half, Sevilla dominated sporadically and conceded to Canales in extra time from a free-kick. The Andalusians qualified for the UEFA Europa League knockout stages despite losing 1-0 to Dinamo Zagreb. Orisc scored the only goal of the game in the 65th minute. In the last 16, Sevilla will play a double-header against English side West Ham. Earlier, Sevilla also drew 1-1 at Espanyol. The first goal of the match was scored by Rafa Mir in the 36th minute. The Catalans managed to equalise in the second half through Sergi Darder. Sevilla are in second place in La Liga with 54 points after 26 games. Lopetegui's side are eight points clear of third-placed Betis. However, the rojiblancos have six points to make up on Spanish leaders Real Madrid.
