The "lions" from the Capital were a few weeks ago tied on points with their rivals from Porto, at the top of the ranking in Portugal. Things have changed in the meantime, and Rúben Amorim's students are now in second place, three points behind the "dragons". The other team from Lisbon, Benfica, is on the last step of the podium, six "lengths" behind Sporting. The defeat against Santa Clara in the last two stages (2-3) caused the title holder to lose contact with FC Porto. That failure came after a series of four months in which Sporting had victories on the line in the Primera Liga! After that game, however, the "lions" recovered. After the victory with Leca in the Portuguese Cup (4-0), Sporting also defeated Vizela (2-0), in the championship.
