Union Berlin - Mainz Prediction, Picks and Taips

FC Union Berlin and FSV Mainz 05 open the third round on Friday. The trainer was fired from the visitors this week. Will the team from Mainz perform better without Achim Beierlorzer? FC Union Berlin took a bonus point last Saturday. That's how you can call it, if you take a point when the small Union visiting Borussia Mönchengladbach - last season's number four. Nico Schlotterbeck headed the 1-1 final score on the board ten minutes before the end. There was also a role for Sheraldo Becker. The attacker, who came over from ADO Den Haag more than a year ago, saw his debut year in the Bundesliga largely fall into the water due to injuries. On Saturday, however, he delivered a fine match. For example, he hit the bar in the first half.

Despite the unexpected point that was tackled in Borussia Park, it looks set to be a difficult year for Die Eisernen. Last summer, Andreas Luthe was roped in as the new goalkeeper, while last season's first keeper - Rafal Giekiwicz - left on a free transfer. The club management apparently does not have full confidence in Luthe, because Loris Karius was added to the selection this week. Karius became internationally known in a way that as a goalkeeper you don't want to be. In the Champions League final of 2017/2018, he went on behalf of Liverpool, against Real Madrid, twice horribly wrong (1-3). It remains to be seen whether he will be assigned a basic spot on Friday.

FSV Mainz 05 does not have a season start that is going according to plan. Die Nullfünfer suffered a hopeless defeat at RB Leipzig (3-1) on match day one. The following week, there was a stir around Adam Szalai, who was kicked out of the squad, after which his colleagues rebelled and refused to train. Those problems were eventually ironed out, but last weekend's league game led to new gloom. At home against VfB Stuttgart, Mainz went down as deserved as without a chance with 1-4. The zeperd against Stuttgart turned out to be the last match coach Achim Beierlorzer as Mainz coached this week. He stepped in halfway last year, and managed to keep Die Nullfünfer for the Bundesliga. However, Beierlorzer's credit turned out not to be large enough to maintain his position. The new responsible man is called Jan-Moritz Lichte. He has to make a line-up on Friday without Moussa Niakhate, who has been suspended for a game. Right back Ridle Baku is about to sign for VfL Wolfsburg, so it is quite possible he has already played his last game for M05.
