You can call the promotion of Elche a real football miracle. When Elche played its first exhibition game of the new season two weeks ago against third division Murcia, Almiron only had nine professional players at his disposal. In the meantime, the situation is somewhat less dire with the recruitment of Raul Guti, among others, but the selection of green and white still appears to be substandard, both qualitatively and quantitatively. Despite this, Elche managed to keep the damage under control in the Trofeo Gamper against Ronald Koeman's FC Barcelona with only a 1-0 defeat. Unlike Elche, Real Sociedad has already completed a few league matches this season, but the Basques have not yet been able to taste the sweet taste of victory this season. Both on a visit to Real Valladolid (1-1) and at home against Real Madrid (0-0), the blues were stuck on a draw. The Basque form crisis has actually been going on for much longer, because since the corona break, La Real has only won two of its thirteen league matches. With only twelve goals, the lack of scoring ability in particular regularly breaks up the blues.



Yet there is some hope on the horizon, because in the meeting with Real Madrid, Real Sociedad managed to hold its own. Trainer Imanol Alguacil, however, is not yet satisfied: "A draw against Real Madrid is only a good result if we manage to take three points against Elche." The good news is that Willian Jose and David Silva have now fully recovered from corona, although there is a good chance that they will start on the bench.
