Russia - Serbia Prediction, Picks and Taips

Scottish referee William Collum whistles the starting signal for Russia - Serbia in the Lev Yashin Stadium on Thursday evening at a quarter to nine. In the third group of division B it is fought who is promoted to division A and who is relegated to division C. The other teams in the group are Turkey and Hungary.

The Russians made a huge impression during the 2018 World Cup. After two victories in a relatively easy group against Saudi Arabia and Egypt, Stanislav Cherchesov's team continued. After 1-1 against Spain, they eliminated the giant by being more cold-blooded from eleven meters. However, Russia stranded in the quarterfinals after a penalty series lost against Croatia. The world saw the success of Russia and when the Nations League entered the international football landscape, the opportunities of the country were therefore taken into account. In Division B of the Nations League, it hit Turkey and Sweden. The Turks were defeated twice, after which they also played a draw against the Scandinavians. In an all-deciding final pot in Sweden, the Russians lost 2-0, which means they will also be active in division B next year. Then Cherchesov's selection was a matter of qualifying for the European Championship. In a group with Belgium, Scotland, Cyprus, Kazakhstan and San Marino, only the first two teams would qualify directly for the European Championship. Only two losses were made in ten games throughout 2019. The losses against Belgium (3-1 and 1-4) were therefore the only missteps. Russia won the remaining eight games, scoring an average of 3.3 goals per game. Captain Artem Dzyuba was important with ten goals and five assists.

The Serbs also took part in the 2018 World Cup, but already flew out in the group stage thanks to defeats against Switzerland and Brazil. More than three months later, it was time for the team of, among others, Dusan Tadic to take revenge in the Nations League. They were assigned to division C. The selection of Ljubisa Tumbakovic came in a group with Romania, Montenegro and Lithuania. However, with players such as Aleksandar Mitrovic, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, Nikola Maksimovic, Nemanja Gudelj and Aleksandar Kolarov, Serbia has players who play at a very high level in club football. That was something the opponents lacked and the difference in level became clearly visible. They remained unbeaten and became group head. Mitrovic became the top scorer of the first Nations League with six goals. Serbia could focus on the European Championship qualifications, but it had to visit Portugal right away. Thanks to an early goal from Tadic and the failure of Cristiano Ronaldo, the Portuguese did not get further than a draw. Serbia got off to a whirlwind start, but then a shocking defeat against the Ukrainians followed. National coach Mladen Krstajic surprised with a 3-5-2 formation, but lost 5-0. Due to a home defeat against Portugal and the fact that only the first two qualified directly, Serbia had to prepare for the play-offs. That play-off will be played in Oslo on October 8. Serbia needs to beat Norway to reach the final. If that succeeds, then a European Championship ticket is at stake in an all-deciding duel against Scotland or Israel. The matches against Russia and Turkey in the coming days are therefore a dress rehearsal of what awaits the team a month later.
