Tirol - Mattersburg Prediction, Picks and Taips
You can say what you want about the mode of the Austrian Bundesliga, which provides for a division into two groups and halving the points after the basic round. The fact is, however, that tension continues to prevail at this relatively late point in the season and that everything is still possible both in the race for European places and in the struggle for relegation.
On Tuesday evening, the so-called qualification group will play their third game day after the split. This leads to a duel between WSG Tirol and Mattersburg. According to the odds of the best bookmakers, the home side are the favorites in this important match, which is a bit surprising at least at first glance. After all, the Swarovski-sponsored club from western Austria is one of the weakest home teams in the Bundesliga.
The green-whites are only two wins in twelve home games over the entire course of the season and, not least because of this, must fear the impending relegation. Coach Silberberger's promoted team is currently only one point ahead of FC Flyeralarm Admira.
But also the guest from Burgenland urgently needs counters in the relegation battle. The sports association rank third in the group of weaker six teams mentioned, but they are only four points ahead of Admira. Nevertheless, the Ponweiser team left a stronger impression after the restart, which is why we decided to take a WSG Tirol vs. Mattersburg forecast tend in favor of the SVM.
From day one, the Wattener Sportgemeinschaft Tirol was all about relegation. All the more satisfied were those responsible for the influential President Diana Langes-Swarovski with the basic round, which the green-whites finished in tenth place. As the points in Austria are known to be halved after 22 match days, the meager 19 points collected were not even half the battle in the struggle for relegation.
After the first two match days in the qualification group, the West Austrians have already dropped back to the penultimate place. Especially the 0: 5 in the first game after the restart at home against St. Pölten was an oath of revelation by the team of long-time coach Thomas Silberberger. At the weekend, the passable 1: 1 in Altach made at least some reparation.
With the first point win in the playoffs, the Tyroleans handed the red lantern over to Admira. The next step towards relegation is to be taken at home on Tuesday. Before the WSG Tirol duel against Mattersburg, the lower odds are offered for a tip on the host, which is surprising after the recent appearance in the Tivoli Stadium, which serves as a place of alternative for the non-Bundesliga-compatible stadium for the entire 2019/2020 season.
If we include the games before the compulsory break in our consideration, the green-whites lost seven of the last nine home games. In general, the record with just two successes, two draws and eight defeats is anything but encouraging. The fact that the German keeper Ferdinand Oswald had already conceded 26 goals while his own offensive only snapped ten times in twelve home games is worrying.
Therefore, between WSG Tirol and Mattersburg we see the more promising value in the quotas for the guest who is currently somewhat more formally present. The endeavor is made even more difficult on Tuesday by the fact that coach Thomas Silberberger is temporarily unavailable following a motorcycle accident in which he sustained leg injuries. Sports director Stefan Köck and assistant coach Martin Sveijnoha will take over for him again. The injured Grgic, Jauregui, Pranter and the suspended former Bundesliga professional Stefan Maierhofer will also be out.
For the fifth year in a row, the Mattersburg Sports Association has been on the road in first class. After last year the Burgenlanders were even allowed to take second place in the qualification group at the Europa League playoffs, but failed there at the opening hurdle Rapid Vienna, the team of coach Franz Ponweiser is aiming for something similar this year.
This goal does not appear to be completely out of thin air, especially since Mattersburg, who is also wearing green and white, is currently only one point behind Altach in third place in the group. Austria as the leader is only three points away. Since these two clubs face each other in a direct duel on Tuesday, the big hour of the former European Cup participant could strike if you manage to bag a three in Tyrol.
What speaks for the SVM is the fact that they are much better off competing this season than at home. The weakest home team of the basic round won four of the eleven appearances in the course of the regular season (one draw, six defeats) and thus collected more than twice as many points abroad as in front of their own fans.
Even after the forced break, the Ponweiser protégés were able to preserve their good away form, because after a 1-1 draw against Altach the Green-Whites celebrated a deserved 2-0 win at Admira at the weekend.
It was the third win in their last four away games. A WSG Tirol vs. Mattersburg's forecast of the better-positioned and probably also better-quality guest is therefore highly recommended.
The personnel Nedeljko Malic continues to cause discussions. The 32-year-old captain was no longer taken into account by the coach and was replaced by the 19-year-old Nemeth in central defense. Malic will be allowed to sit on the bench at most on Tuesday. Top scorer Andreas Kuen (four goals, eight assists), who recently performed well in a new role as the “wrong nine”, has become an integral part of the first eleven.
